Hello, friends!
Are there any yoga poses that you dislike? I asked this recently in one of my classes, and some students expressed that they are often uncomfortable in Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana).

This pose can be surprisingly challenging, especially for beginners, because it requires strength, flexibility, and alignment across multiple parts of the body. Tight hamstrings or calves can make it difficult to straighten the legs, while limited shoulder or wrist mobility can cause discomfort or strain in the upper body. At the same time, the pose demands core engagement and awareness of spinal alignment to avoid collapsing into the lower back or shoulders. Holding the position for even a few breaths can become tiring if these areas are tight or weak. What makes it even trickier is that it’s often considered a “resting pose,” yet for many practitioners, it feels anything but restful at first.

In every yoga journey, there are poses that simply don’t feel good. Navigating these disliked asanas can be a lesson in patience and self-awareness. Instead of pushing through with resistance or skipping them entirely, it's helpful to approach them with curiosity: Why does this pose feel so off? Is it physical tension, mental resistance, or something deeper? Modifying the posture, using props, or focusing on the breath can transform the experience from one of avoidance to one of exploration. Let’s chat about it in class and explore together!
Hope to see you soon!
